A love letter to Gloversville

Gloversville is and always will be very weird, very wonderful and very proud.

Gloversville is and always will be very weird, very wonderful and very proud. We have grit, creativity and perseverance. We have downtown characters straight out of casting from Parks and Rec – Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson would feel very much at home in our little city. We have an incredible history on display in our downtown architecture, community institutions and the collective memory that flows through our residents.

In 2019, our office has worked to highlight and share not only our favorite places in downtown, but also cornerstones of life in Gloversville from the perspectives of our friends and community members. As I wrap up my time as the Downtown Development Specialist and hand the reigns over to a new person, I wanted to take a moment and write my own love letter to you.

I have been amazed, honored and so very proud of each and every resident, business owner, volunteer and passerby. YOU have done amazing work over the last three years. YOU have believed in a brighter future built upon community involvement, pride and determination. YOU are the reason why Gloversville is gaining a reputation for creativity, drive, engagement and positivity. YOU are the foundation for a bright future and I thank YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Change is not determined by the work of one person – but one person CAN make a positive, lasting change. Each and every one of us can work to revitalize downtown Gloversville – it can be as big as joining an organization’s board of directors or becoming a committee member…it can be as small as picking up a single piece of trash on the sidewalk. All of us, no matter our income or outlook on life can help make our home, our city, our community better.

THANK YOU for all that you do. Thank you for making Gloversville the quirky, crazy, honest, gritty, wholesome, beautiful, amazing place that it is. We are weird. We are wonderful. And we should all be very proud that Gloversville is the place we call home.

If you are interested in becoming involved in Downtown Gloversville’s revitalization process, please feel free to reach out to James Hannahs, the new Downtown Development Specialist at jamesh@fccrg.org or at 518.725.7700 ext. 1004.

Sincerely,
Jennifer M. Jennings,
Downtown Development Specialist
2017-2019
